Surfer glides on wings of water

It was tough for me to choose just one photo to share from my recent trip to Huntington Beach, where I took many pictures of surfers in action. I decided to go with the picture that appears as though the surfer is gliding over the water with wings made from the crest of the wave. You can find the rest in a photoset here.

Cascading droplets

I found myself mesmerized by the act of capturing falling droplets of water, frozen in time, glistening in the sunlight. And that was fine with me.

It was so much fun to use a macro lens on some nearby flowers... water that hasn't evaporated is a sight rarely seen here! How silly is that?

Mojave Desert

On an adventure full throttle to California, there were not many places to stop and take pictures of the sunset. I managed to grab this just before I found no more stops along the way... The sky became filled with colors unlike that which I am used to in the Sonoran Desert... The Mojave desert is a whole different universe. I will have to make another adventure just to capture the real sunset.

White Flower with Water Droplets

One morning while waiting to take pictures at the beach, I looked at the patio and found water droplets on everything. Water evaporates where I am from, and so the droplets themselves were a point of interest to capture on camera.

It is curious how well some pictures come out, even if you were just testing your camera. The rain arrived within a few hours, but by then I was at a concert in the woods. As I wandered back to the campsite there was a massive inflatable movie theater screen in the middle of nowhere. I found it by following the roar of the electric generator. And on the screen, people were playing Guitar Hero. Perhaps If I was great enough at that game, I would go through the trouble of going into the wilderness to play on a massive screen so a random passerby could see me score. Then again, the beauty of the forest was enough for me.

Fire Sticks

Back in the day, I was a furious dancer. I preferred the fast-burning bright orange glowsticks. Although they only lasted for a mere 5 minutes, it was worth it. I was able to appreciate this person's glowstick work with the help of a tripod in an ever increasingly dense party.

Lunar Crystals

The ice crystals in the upper atmosphere were always more interesting to me than “the man in the moon.” I’ve never seen the man, for even with a hyperactive imagination I had to strain to guess that the upper two darker mares were the eyes and the lower its mouth. I read a story about an artist showing his capabilities by drawing a perfect circle, and so circles have been fascinating to me.

I took this picture with the camera laying on the fence pointing upwards with a 30 second exposure. Even within 30 seconds, at full resolution the stars are a line from the rotation of the Earth.

I was actually in my car at the time, on my way home from a party. I had just acquired my camera and couldn't resist the opportunity. They say Arizona has beautiful sunsets, but I can tell you that the sunrises are just as spectacular.

One day as I wandered around Mill Ave. in Tempe, Arizona I came across a patch of white flowers that looked absolutely beautiful. Their life was fleeting, however, as when I later returned they had withered and died.
